Top 3 Destinations In The Philippines by Joie Charles

The Philippines is an archipelago, having 7, 107 islands, and is abundant in nature, warm people, natural wonders, and filled with pleasant discoveries. Philippines is now considered as one of the top destination in the world, having 1.5 million foreign tourist arrivals for the first semester this year.
With hundreds of destinations in the country, the top 3 on my list are the following:

1. Boracay

Boracay is located in the northwest corner of Panay Island that belongs to the Visayas island group of central Philippines in the Pacific. It is one of the country's most popular tourist destinations, and now, became an international destination too. The White Beach and Bulabog Beach are just the two primary tourism beaches, which are located on opposite sides of the island.

Aside from taking dip of the crystal blue water, you can also take a boat around the island, hire a motorbike or scooter to explore the place, or go horse back riding, and experience the native villages and sceneries that usual visitors don't do.

And, did I tell you that Boracay has one of the most beautiful sunsets? Well, you don't surely want to miss it. And, the fun doesn't end there yet, since Boracay nightlife is pulsating with so many bars and restaurants around that will give you fun until dawn.

2. Bohol

Located in the Central Visayas region, Bohol is the home of hospitable and warm people. Boholanos, as what the natives are called, are very proud of the natural wonders that are bestowed in the island. To name a few, it is the home of the famous Chocolate Hills! Imagine seeing no less than 1268 hills, that are uniform in shape and will turn chocolate brown during summer, and from which the name was derived. You can also see the Tarsiers, one of the smallest known primates and be amazed when they turned their heads by 180 degrees.

Bohol is also blessed with a numerous white sand beaches, and Panglao Island is one of the famous destinations, having powdery sand. It has a large number of top class diving sites, which both foreign and local divers would consider it as diver's haven.

3. Palawan

Palawan is located in the Western Visayas Region and the islands stretches from Mindoro to Borneo in the southwest. The place is for adventure seekers and nature lovers and its famous for its marine sanctuaries, white sand beaches, and exotic wildlife.

One of the "a-must-see" in Palawan is the Tabon Cave. It is a 138-hectares, of rugged cliffs and deep slopes. Because of its importance to Philippine History and heritage, the site was declared a Museum Reservation Site by virtue by the Philippine Government.

Another is the El Nido marine reserve. The scenic landscapes, crystal clear waters and the isolation from the big crowd of the city usually attracts and fascinates the travelers of the place. Kayaking, snorkeling, diving, hiking to the peak of the island, bird watching, sunbathing in a white beach are just some of the activities you can enjoy.
There are still a lot of things that Philippines offers, and it's just there, waiting to be discovered. So, travel in the Philippines now!

10 Ways To Fix Spoiled Family Trips by E Cho

1) Have a family meeting to decide where you will go. Try to pick a destination which offers something for everyone from Dad who only wants to lie in a hammock and drink something alcoholic while listening to the games of his favorite sports team; to the teenagers who want to be any where except where their parents are; to the toddlers who are more interested in the ground level attractions like insects and discarded chewing gum, than they are in any sort of scenery.

2) When you realize no such destination exists, draw straws. Shortest straw gets to spin the family globe while blindfolded and point to a destination. If it's in the middle of an ocean, the nearest land mass will do.

3) No matter how unlikely the selected destination is, come together in a family spirit of "making the best of it." Being a family, after all, means growing together as a family and a bit of planning will help overcome whatever challenges lie ahead.

4) If your fated destination decrees that you will be vacationing near relatives, insist on a visit to let the kids know where they came from. If the relatives happen to be considerably older, with a home full of treasured mementos from years gone by, even better. The toddlers will have plenty with which to entertain themselves, and the teens will have plenty to ask their elders about!

5) If your fated destination decrees that you all end up in a totally foreign part of the world, insist to the kids that it will be an educational experience they'll treasure for the rest of their lives. That is sure to have them dizzy with anticipation as they throw themselves into the task of planning what to see and do.

6) Plan each day's itinerary down to the second, because you don't want the kids to miss a minute their once-in-a-lifetime vacation experience. To make sure they are enjoying themselves to the fullest, see that the family stays together at all times, and thoroughly discusses the importance of what they've learned each evening.

7) Teach the kids to be savvy travelers by packing a minimum of clothes which they can wash as needed the hotel bathroom sink, or if you've managed to track down those distant relatives, wait until you get to their house and ask your hostess to do a batch of laundry.

8) If your family trip requires you to travel by car, let Dad set the pace. When he announces that everyone had better eat hearty and do his or her personal business before leaving home, because there will be no food or relief stops, explain to the children that the real family fun won't begin until you get to your destination. That's why Dad is in such a hurry.

9) Leave the cell phones at home, so that the teenagers won't spend all their time running up roaming charges talking to friends who aren't sharing their horizon-broadening vacation. It should be no problem figuring out what to do if the hotel phone service gets shut off for climactic or political reasons.

10) If the only camera your family has is a camera cell phone, bring it along, but keep it out of sight by restricting yourself to shooting photos either when none of your family is looking, or when all of them are asleep. Catching them in their unguarded moments is sure to make them love you forever.

Try a new country for a change by Leanne King

Sometimes when we move to a new country we do so under a temporary or working visa. After a while we fall in love with the country and the opportunites there for us but often we do not change the state of our visa requirements. A visa is, in short, just a right to be in a country for a period of time. The visa usually sets out those rights and terms of stay. Some countries allow you to extend your visa, others do not. More importantly, this is one part of your travel and lifestyle plans that you must keep up to date on. Ensure that you have familiarised yourself with all the relevant conditions of your visa, that you diarise any critically important dates and that you take the time to visit the local consulate and get up to date information on your visa. Unfortunately, it is all too easy to overlook these matters which can have dire consequences.

If you have moved to another country or are on an extended visa you might like to consider applying for permanent residency. Although this can be a difficult process, if you wish to live in a country, and after all you are still there aren't you you should obtain the benefits of being a permanent resident.

One of the main benefits of being a permanent resident is that you are entitled to the same rights and privileges generally as a citizen.
Whilst that does not sound very exciting it is in fact important. If you have the same legal rights as an ordinary citizen of that country you are entitled to be treated in the same way as such a citizen and have the same legal rights. Your legal rights are of utmost importance. Legal rights extend to all aspects of your life in particular your working conditions, your right to live in a country and your right to justice together with the presumption of innocence in Commonwealth legal systems.

In addition, by being a permanent resident you receive some social benefits including the right to enter and exit the country, social security and health benefits, the right to a public education and certain work related rigths.

Often people do not want to give up the association with the country of their birth and feel guilty if they apply for permanent residency. In Canada, for instance, there is no need for such concern as Canada does not require you to give up your birth country citizenship. In Canada you can hold duel citizenship so in effect you are a citizen of both countries.

Five Disney Vacation Secrets and Time-Saving Ideas by Jane Smith

Disney is the most magical place on Earth, but it can also be one of the most expensive. I've put together five tips to help maximize your time, money, and enjoyment while there.

1. Develop an itinerary before you go. Disney is extremely large and can be very overwhelming. Without a plan you will never get to see all the things that are important to you. Do a little research before you get there and develop an itinerary. This will allow you to make the most of your trip and not waste time unnecessarily.

2. What are the park hours ... really? Every Sunday and Thursday Disney offers "Extra Magic Hours" where specific parks either open early or stay open late. Make sure to figure out which parks these are for the days you are there in order to get the most bang for your buck. The only catch to this deal is that you must be a Disney Resort Guest in order to participate.

3. Kids get scared, be prepared. We all have such fond childhood memories of Mickey that it can be easy to forget how intimidating he can be. Prepare your kids by letting them know that you might meet Mickey and some of his friends. Show them pictures before you go, especially pictures of Mickey with other people so that they can get an idea of how big he will be. When you get there, try to first show them Mickey from afar. If they are afraid, DO NOT push them - instead, walk away and offer them reassurance. Scaring them unnecessarily will cast a shadow over the rest of your trip.

4. Do I really have to wait in that line?!?! It is common sense that the most popular rides will have long lines. But many people are unaware that they can sign up for a free FastPass that will allow them to bypass many of these lines. When you get to a FastPass ride, swipe your card and your place in line will be held. They will then give you a time to return, but in the mean time you can visit some of the less crowded attractions or rides.

5. Wear comfortable shoes!!! I know that this sounds like common sense, but so many people forget this one. Disney is a HUGE place and you will be doing a lot of walking so dress accordingly. Those red kitten-heeled pumps may look great with your dress, but two hours into your day you'll be moving at a snails pace because your feet are so uncomfortable. Instead, opt for a trusted pair of sneakers to help maximize comfort and mobility.

Follow these tips and you will be on your way to getting the most out of your Disney vacation. I hope you enjoy yourself and let your inner child run loose at Disney!

Exploration Before Your Travel Destination by Josh Mullen

Taking a cruise is not all about the destinations you reach, but you can enjoy much more of the trip if you also take a little time to appreciate getting to those destinations. There are so many things to do on ships these days that some cruises don't even have an exotic destination. They are simply cruises to nowhere, where you can just enjoy the offerings on the sailing vessel.

Years ago there were not too many things to do on board a cruise ship. You would bring a good book and wait until the ship delivered you to your first destination to explore. Now, they are floating entertainment venues that also offer lodging and transportation to your travel destination. These ships are accustomed to seeing thousands of tourists at a time and are chock full of activities and opportunities for everyone.

The larger cruise ships often have many more things than restaurants, lodging floors and swimming pools. Many also have their own shopping malls where you can find anything from beach wear to high end apparel and accessories to toys for the kids. They also are likely to have a number of spas and boutiques where you can pamper yourself and feel more like a movie star than a tourist, and relax away your voyage to your travel destination.

If you would prefer to be a little more active with your free time on board, there are quite a few ways you can pass the time. Most ships offer swimming pools and shuffleboard courts and larger ships will sometimes over racquetball courts, tennis courts, rock climbing walls, and maybe even a few bowling lanes to play on.

If you're a duffer and don't know if you can stay away from your golf clubs for the duration of a cruise, you may be able to combine the two. Many ships these days have driving ranges on board where you can practice your swing while the ship traverses the seas to your next travel destination.

For those who like the old time past times, such as reading a good book while enjoying the salty air, you can still do that as well. The benefit on today's ships is that if you forget to bring a good book with you, many of them have libraries, or a book store where you can find a good read.
When it comes to meals, even though cruise ships are prepared to feed thousands at each meal, they do not compromise on quality while they are cooking for large quantities of passengers. Many ships have master chefs who know their art, and create dining master pieces meal after meal for your enjoyment.

While you will likely enjoy the destinations you have selected for your cruise, you should always remember that there are plenty of ways to enjoy the trip to your exotic destination aboard the ship. You've paid your fare to be a passenger who is catered to aboard the vessel, why not take advantage of all the ship has to offer.

A Pampered Holiday At Sea by Ray J. Walberg

When the time has finally arrived to take off for your cruise, this may be a bit of a different experience from other types of trips you would need. Here are some of the things you can expect as you kick off the enjoyment of your cruise package.

While you may be used to self catering, it's time to get used to pampering. That is what is going to happen as you begin your cruise voyage. As soon as you arrive at the cruise terminal you will notice this. Instead of you being forced to drag your luggage all over the place, it usually is taken from you by porters for the cruise line. You may have to be a little patient so they can get to you, since a lot of passengers are usually arriving for their holiday at the same time and the terminal can be a very busy place. Just as you would at the airport, give yourself a lot of extra time to get to the cruise terminal and checked in.

When the porters get to you, they are going to quickly whisk your luggage away and put it on a luggage cart. While you may be a little worried it will not get on the ship, never fear. While airlines can lose luggage from time to time on flight transfers, the cruise line is the one taking care of your bags from start to finish, and the only place they are going is onto your ship. They will magically appear in your stateroom later in the day. It will take a while for them to sort all the luggage out once you get onboard, so be patient. If you want quicker service, it never hurts to tip the porter well, a $5 minimum tip is recommended.

Once your luggage is gone, you have to head into the terminal. This part of the process will remind you of being at the airport, because you will have to go through all the same security x-ray and metal detecting machines as you would at the airport, so once again, be patient. Just be responsible, and respectable and this will go well. Make sure you do not have any taboo items, such as alcohol. Most cruise lines do not allow you to bring alcohol aboard with you. This rule is not for a safety reason as much as it is likely so they can sell their alcohol, but you have to follow their rules.

Once you make it past security, you will be given a number and letter and sent into the Embarkation Lounge until the ship is ready for you. This is a great opportunity to start to meet other people who are going to be on the cruise with you. Many of them have likely sailed before and may be able to answer questions regarding what to expect on your cruising holiday.

Once aboard, find your stateroom, get to know the ship, and if you're at a loss for where you are or where you're going, you're likely to find a staff member somewhere nearby to point you in the right direction.

Taking A Trip By Sea by Vince J. Paxton

Summer cruises remain the most popular with both singles and families who have had enough of going to the same vacation rentals year after year. The kids are out of school, and most people just enjoy taking their vacation time when the weather is fine. And there is no shortage of destination options to choose from. don't be surprised if you spend many spare hours just trying to narrow down which of the cruises you want to take first.

Perhaps you would like to take a trip from San Diego to Baja Mexico. Looking for something a little cooler? How about a trip from Vancouver to Alaska. Done those? Maybe it's time for something a little more unusual.

Look for the smaller cruise ship offerings, they offer great accommodations while also offering great destinations that are too small for the larger ships. If you are looking in the area of the Adriatic and Mediterranean seas you will find a number of cruises that will take you to otherwise little-known destinations. Many people like to explore the South of France, others choose better-known locals like Venice or Dubrovnik. But if you are looking for something really different, look for stops at little islands such as Cres and Hvar.

Want to know what it would have been like to be a Viking? Consider a cruise around the Norwegian Fjords. These cruises tend to leave from Helsinki and on your trip you will see some ice flows as well as the rest of the scenery offered by Iceland and the Shetland Islands.

On one smaller cruise ship, you can completely take on the culture as well. The ship, which holds only 245 passengers is manned by a Finnish crew that will surround you with the Nordic foods and even teach you their heritage dances.

If you have ever found your self looking longingly at the National Geographic shows about the wildlife in Iceland or Greenland, why not get away from the vacation rentals and be in the midst of it? By taking a trip out of Reykjavik, Iceland or Svalbard, Greenland you will see this beautiful scenery and may well get to see the wildlife you've only seen on TV before such as caribou, lemmings, and polar bears.

If all this talk of cold destinations is doing you in, you may want to instead head south of the border. You can take in some culture while you're at it! There are a number of Mexican cruises out there that in addition to offering you the sun and surf of the region, also will take you to locations of the Mayan Ruins so you can understand the history of this area.

There are a seemingly endless series of cruises available to locations such as Peru, Panama, and Belize, counties that are rich with history and scenery, from rainforests to pristine beaches, that you can experience. If you want to see the view from underwater, off the Belize Coast is one of the world's best reefs for scuba diving and snorkeling.

If you are more of the European flair style of person, how about a voyage through the Azores. There are many cruises that will take you to the mid-Atlantic islands of SaƵ Miguel, Portugal, and Ponta Delgada. If you want the natural experience, there are expeditions that will allow you to get up close to whales and dolphin. And at the end of the day, your floating hotel is waiting with a hot meal.

No matter what destination you consider, you should make sure to book early, many of these summer cruises sell out quickly, especially for the more lower priced accommodations.

Preparation For Traveling By Sea by Peter Wilson

When you think of purchasing cruise package holidays, you may think of rest and relaxation and seeing new destinations. But if you don't do your homework, and prepare far in advance, you could find yourself dealing with a lot of last minute problems.

The first thing you need to think of when looking for a cruise deal is when you want to travel and where you want to go. Part of this will have to do with your own schedule and desires. If you're not sure what destination would be best for you, try looking at some of the traveling periodicals that will discuss various vacation destinations and their benefits. Chances are you will find a location that calls to you.

If you are traveling out of your country, you will need a passport. Get this early. It could take a while for the passport to be processed so make sure you get it well in advance so you don't see your cruise deal turn into a cruise dud when you have to cancel the trip. If you already have a passport make sure to check it for its expiration date, and that it does not expire before or during your trip.

Next, some locations will require you to have certain shots to visit because of the threats of diseases common to that area. While these cases are fewer and farther between than they used to be, it's best to check, just in case.

Know what you can spend. A lot of people look for trips they like, and picture themselves traveling the seven seas before they find out if they can afford the trip. Many cruise lines will also insist on a large deposit to hold your space onboard. Learn what the pay schedules are for the cruise package and make sure you will also be able to save us some extra spending money for excursions, souveiners and extraneous expenses. Many places will take your credit cards, but when you are visiting individual countries, many of those are cash-only. So, make sure you have the dough on hand when you take your cruise. If you are planning on spending a lot while you are traveling, you may want to change a lot of those dollar bills into travelers cheques. If you wait until you are onboard or look for a larger institution at one of your destinations to get a cash withdrawal off your card, you may get lower exchange rates.

A month or so out from your cruise, it's time for you to make sure you are getting all your paperwork in order. The cruise ship should have sent your documents by that time. Make sure all the information is correct and read through all the legal details to make sure there is nothing you are missing in your responsibilities.

If you have pets at home, this is the time to make sure you have kennel reservations set up for them, or other plans to make sure they are cared for while you are gone. Don't forget having your mail held, or picked up for you.

How I took a Great Vacation that cost me very little. by B Weiss

Well to start out with I have to tell you that when it's time for vacation or business I drive my car, take a bus or go on the train if possible. I do not go up into the clouds for anybody or any reason. I hate the feeling of falling more then any thing else that a person could be put through. Oh yea you are saying right now it's still the safest way to travel, but when you do crash it is the longest time before you hit the ground, so no thanks.
The first thing I do before going on vacation is get my car ready. I get the oil changed a few days before I leave on vacation. It seems to me every time I get a fresh oil change the engine runs smoother and the car gets better mileage. Also make sure your air filter is clean and your tires are at the right air pressure. These things might sound simple but they could get you a few more miles to the gallon which is a big saving these days. Also I add a fuel additive like Ultimate-me2 in my gas tank and get additional miles to the gallon.

The next step is to find some good vacation packages which give you discount hotels or 3 day 2 night stay for a low cost. Some even give you free amusement tickets, golfing rounds, water country passes, visa cards or even a fourth night stay where you are vacationing. Still don't get it then read on.

I personally have done many timeshare presentations through out my life time, especially when I go to Florida. There we set up five appointments to visit different timeshares. In Florida you can schedule a tour at 7:30 in the morning so it doesn't mess up your whole day. What is cool is they give you breakfast and it is like eating at golden coral and when I am done eating they give me money or attraction tickets for many different attractions. With the money from the five tours and all those meals I bet I save $ 700.00 dollars right there.

The big reason I save a lot is I own a resort, so I only have to pay a maintenance fee every year which is much less then I got for those tours just taken. It is not a lot to give up for what you receive in return. They will even give you another free vacation for going so you don't even have to pay for that the next time you take a vacation.

Getting different vacation packages is the way to go as there is a lot of things to do at a resort that are free, swimming ,miniature golf, tennis, karaoke, bingo and many other things so you hardly have to leave the resort to spend any money at all. I usually get some amusement tickets to Disney World or Bush Gardens and Sea World at the timeshare as a gift, so I don't even have to get those unless I do more then one amusement park.

So there you have it, sit back and see if you can come up with your own discount vacation packages and maybe a few ideas on how to get some of your vacations for free. Or simply go to vacationpackagestogo.com, they have done the work for you.

Winter Honeymoon Destinations by James Gunaseelan

Though most people imagine their wedding as something that happens in spring or summer, a winter wedding can be just as beautiful. But of course, with winter weddings come winter honeymoon destinations, and the advent of colder weather and snow means needing to get creative about your winter honeymoon destinations. However, whether you work to find somewhere that still has great weather in the winter or find a destination that you can enjoy in the snow, there are plenty of great winter honeymoon destinations out there. Here are a few:
Some winter honeymoon destinations like Venice, Italy, make for a beautiful honeymoon any time of year, but the advantage of a winter honeymoon there is that you beat the crowds and the higher prices you'd see during the busy season. Best of all, Venice only gets snow on a few days a year, so you'll still be able to enjoy a romantic ride along the canals without getting buried in white powder.

If you don't mind truly cold weather, then try some winter honeymoon destinations that use the cold as an attraction. For instance, every year in Quebec, an ice hotel is erected for guests that want a truly unique stay in a cold destination. With a movie theater and a chapel for those looking to also hold their wedding in the cold, this ice hotel is a chilly way to start off your new life with your spouse! Another great way to enjoy cold winter honeymoon destinations is with a cruise. Cold-weather cruises can be an experience as unique as their counterparts from warmer waters. Take a flight to Alaska and enjoy a winter cruise where you can watch stunning icebergs and glaciers, and enjoy your honeymoon in a nontraditional way.

Still, some people want winter honeymoon destinations that are warmer, and it's understandable! A break from the cold and snow is a great way to spend a honeymoon. For such a trip, Hawaii is a great destination, any time of year. With an average winter temperature of around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, the tropics make a great place for you to celebrate a new marriage and to soak up a little sun while your home is still under snow. So, give the sun and sand a go for your honeymoon! So whether your destination is somewhere romantic, somewhere extra cold, or whether you go for warm waters, keep an open mind and plan a great winter honeymoon.

Coping With Vacation Issues by sammy maseko

Starting with the family

There are a few popular family vacation destinations but with a little creativity you may be able to find the perfect travel destination for you and your family. Camping trips are one example of a great family vacation. If you want to plan the ultimate family vacation where your children will be thrilled with every activity, you should plan on in central Florida. In addition, you can go fishing or rafting, which are great activities to do with your family or alone.

The beach is the place to be

The combination of glorious weather, pristine rainforest, white sandy beaches, and an ocean varying in hue from blue to turquoise to green, ensures it's where the world wants to go to lie on the beach, swim, surf, snorkel, sail, bushwalk and bird watch. A concealed villa with a patio and a pool, a cute condo decorated in an island theme, or a beach bungalow that separates you from the crowds could all mean the difference between an acceptable trip and one that is utterly amazing.

Summer time vacations

But, because this is often the only period families are able to spend together, how can you take a summer vacation that allows you to relax and get the most out of your time alongside the kids. With research and proper preparation, you can have a comfortable, pleasing summer vacation that won't keep you up at night stressing about making everyone pleased and broadening the budget.

Fishing for fish

When you are planning a fishing vacation, you will first want to decide what type of fishing you're interested in. Going on a fishing vacation can bring relaxation to you and your family. If you are looking for a fun and relaxing vacation, you should consider a Canada Fly-in Fishing Vacation. Vacation packages offer good value. For example, one vacation package offers those looking for a quiet, relaxing atmosphere with the opportunity to experience fly-in fishing on Hearne Lake in Canada.

The outdoor activities

For outdoor you should choose a location with a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for when the weather turns bad. While skiing and snowboarding are certainly the most popular activities, winter brings out a whole other collection of outdoor adventures that you should definitely check out.

Security matters a lot

You should make sure you have a smart plan when flying. Plan your packing, and have a home security plan. Arrive Early for your Flight - Most airports have long check-in and security lines. And for your home, many security firms have round the clock monitoring and direct links to the law enforcement agencies. Ideally one of the best ways to protect your home is with a state of the art security system.

Always keep safe

You should first try to learn about safety issues NOT found in the travel brochures or vacation websites. For personal safety reasons; a tourist guide is highly recommended if you are traveling to exotic destinations. But wait and take some time now to think about your safety with these easy but life-protecting tip - ask the hotel staff about the safety of jogging nearby or walking from your hotel to nearby restaurants, movie theaters or the parking lot.

On to lodging

Las Vegas usually has affordable lodging in good locations close to the Strip. You will find warm mineral springs, world class dining, many unique and unusual shops, five full-service spas and vast choices in lodging from elegant B&B's and historic inns, rental cabins and resorts. For those that just want to stay at a resort and not venture too far away, and also are content with standard lodging arrangements, all inclusive resort vacations can be a great deal.

Insurance in travel

So, before you leave on your trip, check to see if your homeowners or property insurance will ensure your clubs in transit. Many people also purchase diving or travel insurance as well, because their regular insurance won't cover it. And please don't forget to make sure your passport and picture ID are up-to-date, finding out if travel insurance is something you need, and how and where to exchange your money.

The medical department

Make sure you've got adequate Medical Insurance, and that must include any extra cover you may need for injuries sustained on any extreme sports you may pursue. Or you may have some health problem that needs regular attention.

Keeping fit

Fitness and weight program is a good investment if you want to keep fit. And if you don't have one I suggest you download a fitness or weights program from the internet. When choosing a hotel or rest place find out if you will typically also have access to facilities such as a fitness gym, tennis courts, and beach clubs. Or the fitness devices you have at home.

Are Luxury Cruises Worth the Extra Cost? by "Cabin Girl" Annie

Mainstream cruises, especially the ones run on large ships by the major companies, tend to be pretty affordable these days with prices starting around $100 a day for inside cabins. Luxury cruises, on the other hand, cater to a different crowd, and prices can be $1,000 or more per day.
As with flying first class on an airplane, the difference in price between standard and luxury is a big one. Expect to pay far more than double the price. The real question is do you get double (or more) the value?
Honestly, this is going to depend on you. Some people fly first class just to get away from the common folk and perks like larger seats and free alcoholic beverages are just that: perks. The perks aren't the main reason that expensive seat is chosen. Others choose first class because they really enjoy those comfortable seats and those perks, and they can afford the higher price tag.
Cruising is a bit like that. Luxury cruises have a lot of nice perks that you won't find on mainstream ships, even in the higher priced suites, but dollar for dollar the extra cost may not be exactly in sync with what you get.
Before giving a rundown of what you can expect on a luxury cruise, I want to make sure you realize that I'm talking about the real luxury ships here. "Luxury" is a word thrown around a lot, and many of the mainstream cruise lines may claim they offer a luxury vacation. In truth, there are only about 16 ships that specialize in delivering the luxury cruise experience.
Now, here's what you can expect on those ships:
--Champagne at embarkation --A high Passenger Space Ratio (lots of room on ship for each cruiser) --A high Crew to Passenger Ratio (almost as many service people as there are cruisers) --Crewmembers that anticipate your needs and don't say "no" or "that's impossible" --Excellent food with excellent presentation and variety --Tables for two in the dining rooms --Qualified sommeliers who know their wines --A nice selection of high-end wines and premium spirits --More overnight port stays --No lines anywhere --No obnoxious background music (or music at all) in public rooms and halls --Tips included in the fare --Luxury personal toiletries
Depending on the cruise line, you may also find some of the following:
--Wine provided with dinner (no cost) --Teak lounge chairs --Extensive room service menus --The ability to have a special dinner set up on deck with all the service of private dining --Fold-down platforms at the stern of the ship where jet skis, snorkeling gear, kayaks, etc. are provided --Embarkation and disembarkation at your pace in a relaxed environment --Hand-written notes from cabin stewardesses
One of the biggest differences between luxury cruise ships and larger mainstream ships is the overall ambiance. People often compare the mainstream ships to Las Vegas, with its constant entertainment venues, casinos, and the option to party all night. On luxury cruises, the object is more often to relax (no loud music banging in the background) and enjoy the company of your companions while seeing the world.
